Taking Your Impression
Taking your Impressions
- Wash hands with antibacterial cleanser and thoroughly dry
- Thoroughly cleanse teeth by following your dentist’s recommendations: floss teeth followed by a careful brushing, making sure to remove all debris in between the teeth.
- You will find in your kit 2 (two) types of impression materials [ 6 (six) sealed containers: of 3 (three) blue putty and 3(three) of white putty] along with 2 (two) one size fits all universal impression trays 1 (one) tray for a upper impression and 1 (one) tray for a lower impression. *Note an extra set of impression putty is included in case a mistake is made and an impression needs to be retaken.
- After locating the trays, begin to quickly and efficiently mix one container each of the two (blue and white) impression materials together. Your mixing time should NOT extend beyond 45 (forty-five) seconds. The best and recommended mixing action is the bend/fold or roll and knead method. Have a second hand clock available as the material will begin to harden if mixed for more than a 1 (one) minute.
- When the two materials have formed a uniform, blue colored putty mixture, form the putty into the shape of a medium thickness hot dog and place it into one of your impression trays.
- Placing the tray in your mouth, make sure that your teeth are centered with the tray/impression material; using your fingers, use even force to seat the tray firmly and evenly over the teeth and part of your gums. Do Not Bite Down. Expect that some putty will extrude out of the holes of the tray and even over the top. The tray will need to be held stable for 4 (four) minutes, without motion, until the putty has set and feels firm to the touch.
- Once the putty has set, remove the impression tray from your mouth by using a firm, vertical releasing pull. Rinse the tray under cold water to ensure the set. DO NOT remove the impression from the tray.
- Repeat steps 1-6 for the opposing arch and impression.
